Memorial Day: Star, Stripes andTofu

June 2, 2010

Duty called, so I did not get to be where I wanted to be this holiday.

But then think of the duty that led to this holiday.

So a shout out to some one and a half million active members of the US military. Thanks for your sacrifices.

I shot this photo of a patriotic garage door in Beverly Hills.

This holiday has also come to be about food.  I eschewed any meat today, meaning I didn’t chew any, a fitting end to Tasty Tofu Month.

On the menu was my Va Va Voom Veggie Burger, with tofu mayo and Potato Salad with, you guessed it, tofu mayo.

I’m still tweaking the recipe, but it’s basically silken tofu, vinegar and lemon juice. I don’t like regular mayonnaise.  Raw eggs are required for the emulsification or creaminess.
