The Top Five Starring in Your Own Life Lessons We Can Learn from Hello Kitty

November 12, 2010

Hello Kitty turns 36 this year and she doesn’t look a day over, err, three. My sources say her youthfulness can be attributed to her lifestyle choices, not face fillers or Botox.

Her fans include Heidi Klum, Mariah Carey and Raven Symone.

It only follows that this internationally known jeune fille, or should I say jeune chat, has played muse to a legion of artists. Their work will be on display at the Barker Hanger in Santa Monica through November 21.

Even if you can’t go to the show, what can we learn from this enduring legend?

Five Starring in Your Own Life  Lessons to start with.

  1. She listens. Hello Kitty, or Kit, as I’ve come to call her, listens more than she talks. Have you ever noticed, she doesn’t even have a mouth? By comparison her older rival, 51-year-old Barbie, is a Chatty Cathy.
  2. She’s feminine. Who is more girly than Kit? Can you even imagine her wearing motor cycle boots or ripped jeans? She stays true to herself and is pretty in pink.
  3. She has a lot of interests. You’ll find her visage featured everywhere from apps to umbrellas.  Kit does not bemoan progress. She’s a part of it.
  4. She is cheerful and warm-hearted. At least that’s what her bio says. And you have to believe that when you consider she loves to make cookies. She loves “eating her Mama’s pie” even more. Not to mention that she was named a UNICEF ambassador.
  5. She accessorizes. Long before Lady Gaga fashioned a hair  bow  from hair she found on the floor of a beauty salon, Kit was rocking her signature hair accessories. From Diana Vreeland to Anna Wintour, it’s always been about the accessory.  It’s not that Kit is fashionable. She has style.

    Kit says you are making her smile too, although you might not be able to tell because she doesn’t have a mouth ;

    Hahaha I loved this 🙂
    Also, I’m passing your blog along to my cousin– she’s a vegan chef and I think she would really appreciate your site! She’s actually been bringing vegan dishes/courses to the past couple family gatherings we’ve had, and everything she’s made has been a HIT!
