Pie Making in The City Returns

November 13, 2010

It’s been almost a year and  I still can’t think of anything that I’ve done, cooking wise, that was more fun than my flash mob baking experience also known as Jennie Cooks’ Make It and Take It event.

Missed it? No need to tear up, unless you are cutting onions.

Caterer Jennie Cooks  promises to offer up “more apples, molasses and pecans”  this year.

The way it works is that she opens up her catering kitchen and recipe books and you get to bake pies. Jennie supplies all the ingredients, along with the instructions.

All you have to do is bring your own pie pan.

Last year I brought along my trusty square tart pan.

The event is a wonderful learning experience for first-time pie makers. I met several last year.

It’s also fun for the seasoned chef because you don’t have to worry about mise en placing or cleaning up for that matter.

The event will be on Sunday, November 21, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The price is less than you would pay for dessert at  The Little Door.

This year will also feature a pie box decorating contest.

It would be delicious if there were  something like this in San Diego.
