We Can Work it Out: Day #11 Tracey Mallett’s The Booty Barre Plus Abs & Arms

October 12, 2011

If I happened to be stranded on a desert island, that had a DVD player, this would be the one DVD I would want to take with me.

Tracey Mallett’s The Booty Barre Plus Abs & Arms will kick your booty. But isn’t that the point?

This is another one of those Pilates, Lotte Berk, Callanetics mash ups. However, it is more aerobic than the aforementioned.

I consider myself to be a semi-intermediate exerciser. I love how challenging this work out is, although it may be too challenging for a beginner—even with the modifications that are offered.

The workout is divided into sections, beginning with a warm up followed by  routines targeting your arms, booty and abs. The final act involves stretching.

Title: Tracey Mallett’s The Booty Barre Plus Abs & Arms

Host: Tracey Mallett

Time: About an hour and 20 minutes

Equipment: Light weights, a chair, a mat

Cuing: Pretty good, although I would have loved more count downs.

Production Values: No complaints. The studio set up is pretty routine, but nothing detracts from seeing the moves.

Level: She does have back up exercisers. One shows modified moves, but I noticed that a small percentage of the moves are modified.

Video Vibe: DVD workout instructors, take note. Tracey is neither too perky or too plodding. It is the kind of DVD that you follow day after day. She’s enthusiastic without gushing. She pushes you without being sadistic-okay, maybe a little bit. Especially when it comes to the barre section.

Rating: Five legwarmers out of five
