Thankful for the young people who have spoken out about Penn State and Jerry Sandusky

November 13, 2011

Over the years I’ve interviewed both children who have been molested and convicted child molesters and it’s given me a real sense of how truly devastating  this crime can be.

Based on reports, including the grand jury presentment,  I don’t admire the actions of school administrators.

I do admire the victims who have spoken out, including Victim 1. He was brave enough to go to police.

I also admire, Sara Ganim, the 24 year-old reporter who  broke the story about the Penn State scandal.

Over the past few days I’ve been reading her stories, which go all the way back to March of this year.

She got it so right when she told the Miami Herald, ““At the end of the day, it’s not a football story. It’s a crime story.”

There’s a lot of talk about how Penn State was slow to act on this story.

I also wonder why it took bigger media outlets so long to report on this story.
